Anatomy of a COA

Labels tell a story.
Here's how to read it.

A Certificate of Analysis shows what an independent lab measured in a specific product batch. Here are four key areas to review.

01
Batch Number

Connects the product to its specific laboratory report.

02
Cannabinoid Potency

Lists the measured cannabinoid concentrations.

03
Delta-9 THC Result

Shows the reported result for the tested sample.

04
Contaminant Screening

May include pesticides, metals, microbes and solvents.

Frequently asked

Every question, answered.

The real questions people ask about hemp-derived THCa — sourced from actual search data. Straight facts, no marketing spin.

The Basics

What is THCa?

THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the non-intoxicating precursor to THC found naturally in raw, unheated hemp and cannabis. It converts to Delta-9 THC through decarboxylation — the process triggered by heat (smoking, vaping, or baking). In its raw form, THCa does not produce a high. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived THCa is federally legal when the plant contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight.

What's the difference between THCa and THC?

THC is psychoactive; THCa is not — until it's heated. THCa is the acidic form the cannabis plant produces naturally. When you smoke, vape, or apply heat, THCa loses a carboxyl group and becomes Delta-9 THC, the compound that causes the high. Same plant, same molecule — just different states before and after heat.

Is THCa the same as THC?

No. THCa is THC's raw acidic form. They share the same molecular backbone but behave differently: THCa does not bind well to CB1 receptors in the brain and produces no intoxication. Only after heat converts it to THC does it become psychoactive. This chemistry is what makes hemp-derived THCa federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill.

How It Makes You Feel

Does THCa get you high?

Raw THCa does not get you high. However, when heated — the moment you smoke, vape, or dab THCa flower — it converts to Delta-9 THC and produces the same psychoactive effects as traditional cannabis. In short: eaten raw = no high, smoked or vaped = high.

Is THCa safe to smoke?

Yes, when sourced from a lab-tested, compliant producer. Every batch should come with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) verifying potency and the absence of pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbial contaminants. At TP-G Farm, every strain is third-party lab tested and results are published publicly. Never smoke hemp flower without a COA.

THCa vs THC — which is stronger?

Once heated, THCa and THC produce equivalent psychoactive effects — because THCa becomes THC. The perceived "strength" depends on the concentration of the flower (measured as total THC = THCa × 0.877 + Delta-9 THC), the terpene profile, and consumption method. High-THCa flower routinely tests at 25–30% total THC, comparable to premium dispensary flower.

Legal & Drug Tests

Is THCa legal?

Hemp-derived THCa is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill when the source plant contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. State laws vary — some states (like Texas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina) currently allow hemp-derived THCa, while others restrict it. Always check current state regulations before ordering.

Does THCa show up on a drug test?

Yes. Standard drug tests screen for THC metabolites (THC-COOH), and because heated THCa converts to Delta-9 THC, it will produce a positive result the same as any cannabis product. If you're subject to drug testing, do not consume THCa products regardless of their legal status.

How long does THCa stay in your system?

After consumption, THCa metabolites are detectable in urine for approximately 3–30 days depending on frequency: occasional users typically clear in 3–10 days, regular users in 10–15 days, and heavy daily users can test positive for 30+ days. Blood and saliva windows are shorter (1–3 days); hair follicle testing can detect metabolites up to 90 days.

Quality & Sourcing

Is THCa real weed?

Yes. THCa flower is the same cannabis plant as marijuana — cultivated to stay under the 0.3% Delta-9 THC federal threshold. The buds look, smell, taste, and effect exactly like premium dispensary flower once heated. It is real cannabis, sold under the legal category of "hemp-derived."

Is THCa flower sprayed?

Not at TP-G Farm. Some low-quality producers spray THCa distillate onto low-potency CBD flower to fake potency — this is called "spray-on" flower and is unsafe. Genuine THCa flower is grown from cultivars that naturally produce high THCa levels. Every TP-G Farm strain is naturally cultivated and lab-verified — never sprayed. The COA proves it.

What makes TP-G Farm different?

TP-G Farm is a Miami-based curator of small-batch, hemp-derived THCa. Every strain we release is: (a) grown by vetted US farms, (b) third-party lab-tested for potency and contaminants with public COAs, (c) 2018 Farm Bill compliant (less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC), and (d) hand-selected — we release fewer strains and reject batches that don't meet our standards. Premium quality, transparent testing, Miami identity.
